Abstract

Introduction: chronic kidney disease constitutes a health problem because of its impact on individuals, society and the economy.

Objective: to design a clinical practice guideline for the management of chronic kidney disease in primary health care.

Methods: clinical epidemiological research was carried out between 2019-2021, at the “Luis Augusto Turcios Lima” University Teaching Polyclinic, in the municipality of Pinar del Río. The guide was elaborated by evidence-based medicine, consensus and expert opinion. The Microsoft Excel 2016 program was used for the collection and processing of the information. The quality assessment was performed with the AGREE (Appraisal of Guidelines, Research and Evaluation for Europe) Instrument.

Development: 968 scientific articles were chosen, of which 490 were finally included in the guideline, classified as follows: 43 meta-analyses and systematic reviews of clinical trials, 39 clinical trials, five meta-analyses and systematic reviews of cohort studies, four systematic reviews of qualitative studies, 152 cohort studies, 22 case-control studies, 16 cross-sectional and longitudinal observational studies, two quasi-experimental studies, 22 qualitative studies, 143 updated reviews, 35 clinical practice guidelines and four expert opinions.

Conclusions: a guide was designed to improve the quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease in primary health care. Preventive practices and early detection of the disease were systematized. The guideline was finally evaluated by experts as "Highly recommended.
