Introduction: with the accelerated development of science and the appearance of increasingly complex technologies, it is necessary to have professionals with the competences to put progress in function of society and thus generate significant improvements and positive impacts on the quality of life of human beings.
Objective: to analyze the social impact of Percutaneous Nephrostomy, through a scientific, technological and social approach and its repercussion on the training of Urology residents.
Methods: a search for information was carried out in which 35 original scientific articles on the subject were consulted, obtained from the PudMed, Medline, EBSCO, Scielo, Scopus databases, as well as from the Google Academic search engine. Twenty-five bibliographic references were used, with a predominance of articles published during the last five years in Spanish and English.
Development: the need to increase the preparation of Urology specialists and residents is revealed due to the importance of this surgical technique and its impact on patients affected by unilateral or bilateral hydronephrosis, as a minimally invasive procedure, its low cost, safety, accessibility, speed and efficacy.
Conclusions: percutaneous Nephrostomy as a minimally invasive surgical technique constitutes an important part of the development of current medical technology and the development of this competence in Urology residents is required to offer a quality service to the population.
