Introduction: preeclampsia is a multisystemic disease and is among the leading causes of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality worldwide. The only curative treatment is the effective evacuation of the uterus, requiring anesthetic techniques that confer additional risk.
Objective: to describe the behavior of spinal anesthesia during cesarean sections in pregnant women with preeclampsia at the "Abel Santamaría" general teaching hospital in Pinar del Río, a descriptive, prospective, and longitudinal study was conducted during the period 2021-2023.
Methods: the sample consisted of 115 pregnant women who underwent spinal anesthesia with morphine, fentanyl, and hyperbaric bupivacaine 0.5 %. Intraoperative hemodynamic alterations and technique-dependent complications were determined, as well as the evaluation of analgesia. Results: the hemodynamic variations were minimal and gradual over time, with a predominance of decreased blood pressure. The most common adverse reaction was itching, and adequate postoperative analgesia was provided.
Conclusions: the hemodynamic behavior was satisfactory during the perioperative period, with the main complication being arterial hypotension.
