A strategy to implement a pedagogical conception of the process of citizen formation period in medical studies

Introduction: the strategy to implement the pedagogical conception of the process of citizen formation period in medical studies is supported on the professional ways of performance of the medical citizen and promoter of citizenship, which constitutes the practical contribution of the research concerning this process at the University of Medical Sciences in Pinar del Rio.Objective: to assess the impact of this strategy to the implementation of the process of citizen formation in medical students.
Material and method: the analysis was supported on materialist-dialectic method due to its comprehensive and oriented to the system of methods: theoretical (historical-logic, systemic-structural), empirical (survey, interview, action and participation), statistical (consults to experts by means of Delphi’s method).
Results: weaknesses and strengths of the process of citizen formation in medical students were determined; the conceptual analysis in relation to the basic categories was conducted in order to achieve the declared objective; the premises to implement the strategy and its specific strategic actions were stated, the essential objectives were as well defined along with the criteria of the experts in relation to this proposal.
Conclusions: the process of the citizen formation to the medical students at the University of Medical Sciences in Pinar del Rio expresses a conscious, contextualized and systemic nature; proving its importance to solve the problems of the profession integrated to the characteristics of the current Cuban society, from the two dimensions of the medicine professional mode of acting: citizen and promoter of citizenship.
