El Síndrome de las piernas inquietas, trastorno del movimiento caracterizado por una sensación desagradable en las extremidades inferiores que provoca la necesidad imperiosa de moverlas, presentándose dichos síntomas en el horario del reposo vespertino, antes de dormir en la noche, lo cual interfiere con la instauración del sueño, provocando múltiples manifestaciones clínicas en los pacientes que la padecen. Es una entidad que a pesar de conocerse desde tiempos remotos, no se detectaba mucho, hasta hace unos años en que la frecuencia diagnóstica se ha incrementado pero todavía de forma insuficiente. Se presentan los primeros 5 casos diagnosticados y tratados con éxito en la consulta de neurología del Hospital "Abel Santamarìa" durante el corto período de 6 meses en el 2002.
