Strategy for training new doctors of philosophy at Pinar del Rio Medical University

Introduction: the percentage of professionals with the academic degree of doctor of philosophy is one of the standards considered in determining the degree of excellence of any university, institute, higher education center or any other research center.Objective: to analyze the strategy for training new doctors of philosophy at Pinar del Río University of Medical Sciences, for assessing the results of its implementation.
Material and method: a pedagogical study was performed based on the dialectical-materialistic method, where methods of the empirical and theoretical levels were used, group surveys were conducted, brainstorming sessions, which permitted to obtain and analyze the inner and outer forces provoking the scarce formation of doctors of philosophy at Pinar del Río University of Medical Sciences., DAFO matrix was applied to elaborate the strategy.
Results: it was noticeably necessary to count on a strategy energizing the process of forming doctors of philosophy, as a teaching-learning process, whose objective is educating a professional with a high level of updated knowledge and dominating the scientific methodology with a high level of social compromise.
Conclusions: the strategy for educating doctors of philosophy at the Medical University constitutes an opportunity for increasing the role of scientific research in solving the health problems, with an increase in the population’s quality of life and of the university processes.
