Abstract

Introduction: hypertension has a multi-factorial origin in which genetic and environmental factors play an important role, and it is one of the most important health care problems in contemporary medicine. In Cuba the study to find out the interaction of genetic predisposition along with the environmental factors is a challenge.
Objective: to evaluate the interaction of a predisposing genome with adverse environmental factors in the development of this disease.
Material and methods: a case-control study was designed, taking the population of the 19 de abril Polyclinic, in Plaza de la Revolución municipality between the years 2012 and 2014. The sample was comprised of 80 cases and 160 controls, obtained by simple random sampling, environmental factors and genetic risks were assessed, as well as the parental origin for genetic predisposition.
Results: it was found that pathological alcohol consumption, low physical activity; overweight, sugar-rich and low-vegetable diets increase the risk of developing hypertension. Maternal origin of the disease predominated. The interaction of a predisposing genome given by first-degree family history and environmental factors such as obesity increase the probability of developing hypertension. C
Conclusions: adverse environmental factors tend to modulate the genetic predisposition of a predisposing genome for the development of the disease.
