Ophthalmologic manifestations in leukemia
Keywords:
DeCS, ocular manifestations, leukemia, ophthalmology, hematologyAbstract
Introduction: leukemias are a group of neoplastic diseases characterized by an abnormal proliferation of white blood cells. The ocular abnormalities observed in these patients may be varied and include those affecting the eyeball and / or its annexes.
Objective: to present the main ophthalmologic manifestations in leukemia.
Method: a search of the main scientific papers in recent years, as well as the printed literature that includes this topic, where the most important were selected to prepare the content of the final report.
Results: ophthalmologic manifestations in patients suffering from leukemia are grouped into three groups: primary leukemic manifestations or caused by infiltration of blast cells, manifestations of secondary origin related to changes observed in the hematological profile of these patients and the secondary manifestations of complications due to anti-leukemia treatment.
Conclusions: it is essential that doctors specializing in ophthalmology and hematology are informed and trained to detect various eye disorders associated with leukemic diseases, since an accurate and timely diagnose can improve its management and may be significant not only for the visual health of these patients, but also, for their lives.
