Pinar del Río, 2006-2007 A Proposal of Introduction to values as comprehensive formation in Medical Students. Pinar del Río. 2006-2007
Abstract

ABSTRACT
Values are complex psychological formations, regulating the individual conduct toward others and toward him or herself and they are formed on the base of certain ways of life and education in a certain historical-social context, ie, they are developed from the childhood, going from family, to school and social institutions. A descriptive study in medical students was carried out in order to attain a comprehensive formation based on values of medical students by means of the proposal of introducing themes related to the subject, knowing the behavior of the introduction of values by different ways as family, school and society. It was observed that in 57.5% of medical students, society is an essential part for incorporating the values required by the medical profession, loving the nationality is remarkable in 46,25% of students, as one of the values absent in young people. So we consider that the inclusion of reflection and discussion spaces in our subjects is necessary, and we also propose the creation of workshops on the value formation as part of the curriculum of our students where the student's parents and friends could be invited, and there should be a more space in our Medical Science Journals devoted to the themes concerning value formation.
