Leptospirosis. Estudio de los fallecidos en el trienio 1994-1996 en el Hospital General Docente "Abel Santamaría Cuadrado". Leptospirosis. A study on dead persons carried out in Abel Santamaria Cuadrado General Hospital, between 1994 and 1996
Abstract
Se realiza una revisión de los antecedentes epidemiológicos, manifestaciones clínicas, resultados de exámenes complementarios y hallazgos necrópsicos de cinco fallecidos por leptospirosis en el trienio 1994-1996 en el Hospital Docente Clínico Quirúrgico "Abel Santamaría" de Pinar del Río. La siembra y cultivo de arroz fue la actividad de mayor riesgo. La fiebre de inicio brusco, mialgias, astenia y cefalea, junto al íctero, oliguria y las manifestaciones respiratorias y purpurico-hemorrágicas, fueron los síntomas y signos mas frecuentes. Los valores del hemograma, velocidad de sedimentación globular, creatinina, transaminasa glumatico pirúvica, bilirrubina total y coagulograma, resultaron alterados en todos los casos. El fallo múltiple de órganos fue causa directa de muerte en los pacientes estudiados.

A review on epidemiological history, clinical signs, complementary examination results and findings on necropsy of 5 dead persons for leptospirosis was carried out in Abel Santamaria General Hospital, Pinar del Rio, during the trienal period (1994-1996). Rice sowing and cultivation was the major risk activity. The most frequently found symptoms and signs were sudden fever, myalgia, astenia and cephalea, as well as icterus,oliguria, respiratory and purpuric-hemorrhagic signs. Hemogram values, globular sedimentation rate, creatinine, piruvic glutamic transaminasa, total bilirubin and coagulogram results were altered in all the cases. Multiple organ failure was the direct death cause in this study.
