Abstract
Se realizó un estudio prospectivo de 362 pacientes mayores de un año portadores de tos Coqueluchoide que acudieron al servicio de urgencia del Hospital Provincial Pediátrico " Pepe Portilla", que no habían recibido tratamiento para su enfermedad, con el objetivo de aplicarles como único tratamiento la moxibustión método tradicional, y de esa forma probar su efectividad en el acortamiento de los periodos de tos, y los beneficios obtenidos por los niños y sus padres. Se comprobó que los niños comprendidos en las edades de 5 a 9 anos y del sexo femenino, fueron los mas afectados y que a los 10 días de tratamiento el 96% de los casos no presentaban accesos de tos y solo el 3,8% se mantenía con una o dos crisis diarias. El método produjo gran aceptación entre los familiares por su efectividad, rápida incorporación de niños y padres a sus labores habituales, su inocuidad y bajo costo para ellos y la institución, las 10 sesiones causaron un gasto de $5.70.

ABSTRACT
A propective study of 362 patients from 1 year of age on suffering from whooping cough was conducted at Pepe Portilla Pediatric Hospital, Pinar del Rio. The objetive of the study was to prove the effectiveness of moxibustion, a traditional method, in the treatment of this cough and the benefits for children and their parents. Children from 5 to 9 years of age, and mainly females, were the most frequently affected patients. After ten days of treatment, 96% of the cases had a good evolution (no cough access) and only 3.8% of cases had 1 or 2 daily crisis. This method was significantly accepted by children and their parents who could reincorporate to their daily activities. Besides, it is innocuous and has a low cost.
