Introduction: patient safety in Primary Care is a global problem that requires local and sustainable solutions.
Objective: to find out how primary care nurses perceive the different dimensions of patient safety.
Methods: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted in the Department of Health 21 (Alicante-Spain), from February to May 2022, where 80 nurses worked. The sample was obtained by convenience and consisted of 66 nurses with a mean age of 37,34 (SD 12,66). The Medical Office Survey on Patient Safety Culture (MOSPSC), translated, adapted and validated for primary care in Spain, was used as an instrument. For the statistical analysis, contingency tables were used to analyse the homogeneity of the groups, applying Chi-square tests for the categorical variables.
Results: in general, a positive perception (score >3) of the patient safety culture in primary care was obtained in all dimensions of the questionnaire. The lowest scores were found in section D: communication and follow-up and section F: in the centre. Significant associations were observed in section E: leadership support (p<0,045) and section G: overall patient safety scores (p<0,039).
Conclusions: the results show that the promotion of communication, support, leadership and teamwork generate a good working environment, respect and follow-up of procedures with the aim of improving the culture of patient safety.
