Psychosocial characterization of adolescent pregnant women in the health area of the "Manuel Fajardo Rivero" Teaching Polyclinic

Introduction: Despite the efforts of the Cuban National Health System to reduce the number of adolescent pregnancies, their number is increasing. There are insufficient studies that characterize them in the health areas of the municipality of Las Tunas.
Objective: to characterize psychosocially the adolescent pregnant women in the health area of the Manuel Fajardo Rivero Teaching Polyclinic from January to December 2021.
Methods: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out. From a study universe of 56 pregnant women between 13 and 18 years of age who had teenage pregnancies, a sample of 46 teenage pregnant women was formed by means of simple random sampling. Historical-logical, analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction, observation and survey methods were used. The information was processed using descriptive statistics, with the calculation of absolute and percentage frequencies.
Results: The age group of 17-18 years predominated with 58,70 %. The 43,48 % started sexual relations between 13 and 14 years. Primary school level reached 54,34 % and 63,04 % of the adolescents had a partner. The poor economic situation was highlighted in 58,70 %. 60,87 % do not use contraceptive methods, with health personnel being the main provider of sexual education represented by 32,61 %. 45,65 % of the families are classified as moderately functional.
Conclusions: Psychosocial factors such as early sexual debut, low schooling, poor economic situation and family dysfunctionality lead to adolescent pregnancy.
