Pressure ulcers. A case report
Keywords:
Pressure ulcer, Platelets, RegenerationAbstract
Introduction: pressure ulcer (PU) is a localized injury to the skin and/or underlying tissue usually over a bony prominence, as a result of pressure, or pressure in combination with shear forces. Sometimes, they can appear on soft tissues subjected to external pressure by different materials or clinical devices.
Objective: to describe a patient with a sacral pressure ulcer treated in the Reconstructive Surgery and Burns service of the Dr. “Miguel Enríquez” Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital.
Case presentation: the case of an 84-year-old patient with a sacral pressure ulcer was reported, who went through the 4 evolutionary stages and managed to heal 90% with the care of family members and her medical team who included in her treatment the application of platelet lysate. He addressed notions of the epidemiology of PUS and the effect of platelet lysate on them. The classification, preventive and curative treatments of PUS were described.
Conclusions: prevention will always be the main and most effective measure. PUS can and should be avoided with good nursing care within a multidisciplinary work plan (doctor/nurse/family). In the case of UPP appearance, the ideal treatment must be sought for each type of ulcer and its evolution.
