Introduction: the health management demands new forms of professional action in Cuban health institutions that guarantee the changes necessary for their sustainable development.
Objective: design a course that contributes to improving the performance of primary health care staff based on working with their reserves.
Methods: an educational development research was conducted from July 2023 to December 2023, which culminated in the design of a training course on health management for primary care cadre reserves. The population included the 96 cadre reserves belonging to the General Directorate of Health of the municipality. For the selection of the sample, a non-probabilistic purposive sampling was carried out, and it finally consisted of 34 reserves. Reliability was obtained by calculating Cronbach's alpha in SPSS for Windows version 28.
Results: the learning needs of the cadre reserves were identified on the basis of which a course composed of sixteen topics was designed, with an active and participatory approach, through different forms of teaching-learning, with emphasis on the use of work group. The course was validated by expert criteria.
Conclusions: the reserves of Primary Health Care cadres have insufficient knowledge about health management and a postgraduate course is proposed to contribute to improve the performance of the cadres.
