Abstract

Introduction: at the international level, numerous investigations have been carried out that have explored the association between hypertension and sarcopenia in outpatient older adults. These studies have provided solid evidence on the relationship between the two conditions.

Objective: to characterize the trends and impact of scientific production on hypertension in outpatient older adults with progression to sarcopenia published in Scopus between 2020 and 2023 in the Latin American context.

Methods: an observational, descriptive, transversal and bibliometric study was carried out of the Latin American scientific production on hypertension in outpatient older adults with progression to sarcopenia published in Scopus between 2020 and 2023. The data used in the study in question was obtained from the Dimensions database (https://www.dimensions.ai/). Pearson's linear correlation was used to perform the trend analysis of the data, it was done through the Excel add-ins.

Results: the most productive years were 2020 (223 articles) and 2021 (187 articles). A total of 20854 citations were received for each scientific article published. Countries such as Brazil and Argentina lead the ranking with a greater number of investigations. Cuba was ranked number eight in Latin America in the publication of articles on hypertension and sarcopenia.

Conclusions: there was evidence of a low Latin American scientific production on hypertension in outpatient older adults with progression to sarcopenia in journals indexed in Scopus, with published articles and citations that follow a direct line towards the decrease. Countries such as Brazil and Argentina lead the ranking of areas with the highest number of research.
