Podiatric training: place, role and importance in the Health Rehabilitation career in Cuba

Introduction: the training of professionals is developed in institutions of higher education, adapted to the dynamics of the national and international socio-economic context, and takes the form of a solid scientific-professional training. In order to guarantee integral preparation and achieve a highly qualified and competent graduate, it is necessary to raise the rigor and demands, guaranteeing the dialectic interrelation of academic, labor, research and extension activities.
Objective: to assess the place, role and importance of podiatric training in the students of the Health Rehabilitation career of the University of Medical Sciences of Pinar del Río.
Methods: a critical-valuative analysis was carried out, with a quantitative-qualitative approach of the podiatric training process. The research was carried out with all the students enrolled in the career, during the 2023 school year.
Results: it was found that the professional problems are very generally stated in the Professional Model, and there is a recognition of the place and importance of Podiatry for the acquisition of professional skills. There is a lack of intentionality of the academic and work activity since the academic years.
Conclusions: the role, place and importance of podiatric training in the Health Rehabilitation career does not reach the priority in correspondence with the current context, as it shows the need for its resizing from a process of systemic, integral and coherent character with the way of professional performance.
