Abstract

Introduction: acne is a very common inflammatory disease in adolescents and young adults that affects the pilosebaceous unit. Its etiology is multifactorial and is characterized by lesion polymorphism.

Objective: to describe the response of patients with acne vulgaris treated with minor autohemotherapy at the Celia Sánchez Manduley Hospital.

Methods: a quasi-experimental study was conducted to describe the response of patients with acne vulgaris treated with minor autohemotherapy at the Celia Sánchez Manduley Hospital in Manzanillo, Granma from January 2020 to May 2022. The study population was represented by 91 patients over 15 years of age who attended the dermatology clinic at said center. The sample consisted of 79 patients who met the inclusion/exclusion criteria.

Results: the female sex predominated (51,9 %) and the ages of 15 to 19 years were those that contributed the highest number of cases (39,2 %). 70,9 % of patients improved with minor autohemotherapy. 97,5 % of patients had no adverse reactions to this treatment.

Conclusions: acne vulgaris is a very common inflammatory disease in both women and men and is most frequently observed in adolescent patients, as the moderate clinical form is the most common at these ages. Minor autohemotherapy is an alternative method of treating the disease for the cure and improvement of patients, as it causes few adverse effects in people and prevents acne recurrence.
