Introduction: environmental degradation and climate vulnerability generate negative impacts on environmental health, making it necessary to implement programs for their control.
Objective: To propose an Environmental Health Program for producers and rural communities linked to the “Hermanos Barcón” Productive Hub, aimed at fostering greater environmental awareness to improve performance and quality of life.
Method: a non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional study with a mixed-methods approach was conducted in rural communities of the “Hermanos Barcón” Productive Hub. Surveys, document analysis, and the Iadov technique were used to validate the environmental health program, enabling the characterization of environmental conditions, community perceptions, and priority health issues.
Results: the rural communities of the “Hermanos Barcón” Productive Hub, located in the southern plain of Pinar del Río, face high environmental vulnerability. The diagnosis revealed limited knowledge of environmental health, and through a methodological triangulation process—comparing and integrating data from various sources and methods—a more robust and evidence-based environmental diagnosis was developed, which supported the design of the proposed program.
Conclusions: the rural communities linked to the “Hermanos Barcón” Productive Hub are situated in an area of high vulnerability to environmental impacts, which affects the environmental health of producers and their families. The proposed Environmental Health Program includes a strong Environmental Education component and serves as a tool to reduce vulnerability to health risks caused by a lack of environmental awareness.
