Hydrotherapy to treat pre-term delivery threaten
Abstract

ABSTRACT
A study of 32 patients with threaten premature abortion admitted at Perinatal Special Care Ward was carried out at Justo Legón Padilla Gyneco-Obstetric Hospital, Pinar del Río, between Jly and December, 1997. The treatment included: absolute rest, elevation of the food of the bed (15 cm) and hidrotherapy with Dextro Ringer or Saline Solution (0.9%). Parameters as mother's age, parity, predisposing factors, mother's efforts during labour, results of erythrosedimentation and vaginal exudate, and response to hidrotherapy were analyzed. It was found that the incidence of this afection was 5.6 x 1000 live births; nulliparas were significantly predominant (p < 0.05). Leukorrhea and sexual relations were the main risk factors for threatened aborion. The risk to present this afection was 3.8 times superior for housewifes compared to workers (our 32 cases are not representative of the whole population) and it was highly significant for those who had erythrosedimentation > 50 mm/h and positives exudates. As a conclusion, hidrotherapy with Dextro Ringer showed a great efficacy in the treatment of this afection.
