Professional performance of the dermatologist in the care of pediatric patients

Abstract

Introduction: Currently, the quality of healthcare must be closely interrelated with the level of professional performance of the human resources trained in medical education institutions. Good professional performance is essential for dermatology specialists, especially when dealing with Pediatric patients, where skin diseases have their own particularities specific to that stage of life.   

Objective: To characterize the professional performance of dermatologists in the care of pediatric patients with skin conditions.

Results: 42.8% reported having only basic knowledge about skin diseases in childhood. 40.5% did not know how to act when faced with a Pediatric patient with skin conditions, nor were they able to make decisions without instructions. 45.2% only sometimes make the correct diagnosis and establish the appropriate treatment.

Conclusions: The majority of dermatologists reported that they only sometimes make tha correct diagnosis and establish the appropriate treatment when attending to this type of patient.
