Educational strategy for preparing parents and teachers in the early detection of visual problems in children
Abstract
Introduction: Eye problems often arise at an early age and frequently go unnoticed. If left untreated, they can lead to vision problems. Therefore, proper training for parents and teachers is recommended for early detection in children.
Objectives: To design an educational strategy for preparing parents and teachers for the early detection of vision problems in first-grade children at the Juan Lefont Alonzo Elementary School in Jagüey Grande.
Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional, and systematic study was conducted. Using the structural systemic method, an educational strategy model was defined, structured by stages and actions, for the preparation of parents and teachers. This model was based on data obtained during vision screenings conducted at the Juan Lefont Alonzo Elementary School in Jagüey Grande between January and July 2025.
Results: The educational strategy model was structured based on theoretical foundations and characteristics aligned with the process of preparing parents and teachers for the early detection of visual problems in first-grade children. Four stages were designed: awareness, diagnosis, implementation, and evaluation; each with its own objective and specific actions.
Conclusions: Through the design of the educational strategy, a system of actions was organized to prepare parents and teachers for the early detection of visual problems in first-grade children.
