Introduction: University-level education requires students to develop research skills; consequently, this subject frequently appears in the curricula of various fields of knowledge and professions.
Objective: To design a didactic strategy for developing research skills in nursing students.
Methods: A mixed-methods study using a sequential explanatory design was conducted within the Bachelor of Nursing program at the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos. The study population consisted of the total enrollment of 147 students; the sample comprised 34 students selected via homogeneous non-probability sampling. Theoretical, empirical, and mathematical-statistical methods were employed.
Results: Patterns regarding strengths and deficiencies were identified, enabling the design of a didactic strategy comprising specific didactic actions that integrated Patricia Benner’s model and Añorga Morales’s theory. The proposed didactic actions are grounded in the need to shift the approach to developing research skills among Bachelor of Nursing students.
Conclusions: The didactic strategy, designed within the educational process, integrates various stages and subsystems—as well as personal and non-personal components—to foster the development of research skills.
