Mortality due to Myocardial Infarction. Municipal area of Intensive Care in Los Palacios, Pinar del Rio

Among heart diseases, Acute Myocardial Infarction outstands, representing one of the main health problems in current times.Objective: descriptive and cross sectional research in health services.
Material and method: 12 patients from 15 years old and older suffering from Acute Myocardial Infarction and those deceased in the municipal area of Intensive Care in Los Palacios during the period studied. The measures to sum up the qualitative data were used (rates and percentages) and ratio of crossed products (OR).
Results: 69 patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction were assisted during the period in the Intensive Care Area having a mortality rate of 17,3%; male sex prevailed and ages from 60 years old and older; thrombolysis was performed in 4,6% of the deceased. Mortality rate in patients assessed in emergencies for possible cardiopulmonary resuscitation increased 8,5 times being or not under thrombolysis did not increase.
Conclusions: Acute Myocardial Infarction showed rates over the purpose of this municipal intensive care area, prevailing male patients over 60 years where the assessment of the condition to make possible the cardiopulmonary resuscitation in emergency rooms was affected; which increased in 8,5 times the death rate, while being or not under thrombolysis had not influence in the risk of death.
