Familial environment of the elderly

A descriptive and cross-sectional study including 62 families where old patients live was conducted at "Luis Augusto Turcios Lima" Outpatient Clinic from January to June 2010 aimed at identifying some characteristics of familial environment. The houses of these families were visited in order to collect the data related to familial structure, number of family members and the elderly were taken applying a test of familial perception FF-SIL. Measures to sum up were calculated to achieve the qualitative data (absolute frequencies and percentages). The elderly living with extended families of 4 and 6 members and 2 old people in the group of families prevailed. The greatest number of old people considered family role was satisfactory in their homes.Downloads
