Se realiza un estudio descriptivo en los 18 pacientes con fractura de mandíbula ingresados en el Hospital Clínico Quirúrgico Docente Abel Santamaría Cuadrado de la provincia Pinar del Río en el período 1999-2001, con el fin de evaluar el comportamiento de ésta entidad en el período antes mencionado; obteniéndose como resultados mas significativos que la causa más frecuente de las fracturas mandibulares lo constituyen los accidentes de tránsito en un 50% de los casos, el sitio más afectado fue el cuerpo mandibular con 9 de las 24 fracturas reportadas, además predominaron las fracturas simples sobre las compuestas con una proporción de 23 a 1.
