Assessment of outreach physical recreation activities for medical sciences students

Introduction: the Pinar del Río University of Medical Sciences has as one of its fundamental links university outreach programs, an integrative learning process. To promote physical recreation outreach activities is a prerequisite for achieving the changing processes of for guiding humanity towards harmonious relations systems more conducive to a decent quality of life.
Objective: to assess the development of physical and recreational outreach activities in Basic Sciences students of the Medicine major in Pinar del Río.
Material and method: a pedagogical type study supported on dialectic-materialist method was carried out, as its capacity for integrating qualitative and quantitative features, which allowed determining empirical, theoretical and statistical methods. Observation and surveys were included into the first group. Historical-logical, systemic-structural and documentary review methods were applied to second group. This research was conducted during October/December 2013. The universe and sample were made up by the 514 Basic Sciences students of the Medicine major. An observation guide and a survey were prepared and applied.
Results: in 67.7% of the observations apathy and passivity was detected in students in outreach physical recreation activities; in 62.5%, participation was fair, 65% males and 25% females are satisfied with the offers.
Conclusions: the current state of leisure time process for students in the basic medical area was identified.
