Social study about environmental legal awareness in citizenship education

Introduction: Cuba has one of the most complete education systems all over the world; this allows counting on a generally well-cultured population in environmental topics having at the same time the assurance of this development, which is in contradiction with the evident lack of social discipline in Cuba current situation, causing alarm in both the population and the country’s authorities.Objective: to identify the possible causes of nonobservances of rules to care for the environment at “10 de octubre” people’s council from Pinar del Río city, and its relationship with the education of the ordinary citizen concerning the compliance with the established legal order.
Material and method: theoretical and empirical methods such as logical and documentary analysis were applied, along with synthesis and observation, using the observation and the interview as techniques.
Result: the topic addressed in this article goes beyond civilian rules, verifying other factors as the economic one: the increasing demands of the community and the role of the state institutions and civil society.
Conclusions: for the preservation of the environment plays the role it should, Cuban society must be provided of a suitable legal reordering, granting to the state authorities and the civil society a favorable and active role as well, which must be adopted by an educational strategy in correspondence with the economic model renew, assuring the coexistence among social subjects and legal order.
