Dental misalignment in diagnosis and treatment of partial edentulous persons
Abstract

A study on the assesment of dental misaliggnment as an unfavorable factor to occlusion was carried out. Cases with dental misalignment must be carefully assess in order to facilitate an efficient treatment course so that the partial edentulous person may achieve the rehabiltation of his dental formula. All the patients who needed partial prosthesis services during the period between june 1995 and june 1996 were included in the present study. Sixty percent of patients presented dental position abnormalities suggesting an additional orthodontic treatment while the rest (40%) presented a dental misalignment that could be solved with an inmediate treatment. Most of dental misalignment corresponded to remnant teeth towards edentulous spaces and a great percent of patients in this study has not used a prosthesis previously. Manual information procesing was carried out through palotes systems and the descriptive statistical method was used to complete the work. Frecuency , regarding misalignment, reveals malocclusion morbidity in partial edentulous patients. The importance of the interconsultation with other specialties, particularly with prosthodontic, is highlighted, so that we can take advantages of all its possibilities.
