Strategy for the evaluation of skills in the Total Dental Prosthesis-I subject

Introduction: the evaluation of skills in higher education has a continuous, qualitative and comprehensive character; and it must be based, basically, on the performance of students for the activities to be developed as a future professional.
Objective: to design a strategy to evaluate the skills developed in the in-service activities of the Total Dental Prosthesis-I subject belonging to Dental Prosthesis short cycle major.
Methods: a qualitative research was conducted to accomplish the design of an evaluation strategy for the assessment of the teaching-learning activities on the Total Dental Prosthesis-I subject, for the development of skills by means of in-service education of the Dental Prosthesis short-cycle major, acting according to the established standards and guiding documents for Higher Education, Medical Science Education and the characteristics of the territory.
Results: the abilities of the subject Total Prosthesis-I of the short-cycle major were identified from the analysis of the guiding documents of the teaching-learning process, methodological workshops were carried out with the professors of this subject, and a card to evaluate the skills developed was designed and implemented by professors and students based on the characteristics of the program of study and the needs of the territory.
Conclusions: a strategy was designed that allowed the evaluation of the skills developed during the in-service educational activities of the Total Prosthesis-I subject of the Dental Prosthesis short-cycle major, from its adequate implementation by professors and students.
