Premature mortality due to prostate cancer in Pinar del Río. 2015-2019

Introduction: prostate cancer is a malignant neoplasm of the epithelial tissue. It constitutes a worldwide health problem and in many developed countries it represents the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men.
Objective: to determine the trend of premature mortality due to prostate cancer in Pinar del Rio province during the period 2015-2019.
Methods: an observational, descriptive and retrospective study of the total number of premature deaths (72) due to this neoplasm was carried out, for this purpose; this trend was analyzed through descriptive statistics and meeting medical ethics. Data were obtained from the Mortality Registry of the Provincial Office of Public Health in Pinar del Rio.
Results: the age group 65-69 years old predominated with 58,33 %. The linear trend of mortality was downward with 2015 being the predominant year. Pinar del Rio municipality stood out with 26 premature deaths and 132 potential years of life lost; however, the highest risk of premature death due to prostate cancer was in San Juan y Martínez municipality and Minas de Matahambre municipality stood out as the average number of years lost with 13 years.
Conclusions: there was a trend towards a decrease in premature mortality rate due to prostate cancer.
