Chronobiological Behavior of Acute Myocardial Infarction

Introduction: cardiovascular chronobiology has aroused interest in the study of the pathophysiological bases underlying cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
Objective: to determine the chronobiological behavior of acute myocardial infarction and its relationship with sex and patient survival.
Methods: observational, analytical and cross-sectional study with patients attended at the "Abel Santamaría" Hospital, between January and December 2021. The sample consisted of 260 patients selected by simple random sampling. The variables studied were age, sex, AMI topography, time, day of the week and month of occurrence of the event, as well as the state at discharge. Descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test were used at the inferential level.
Results: patients were predominantly male (66,9 %), aged between 61 and 70 years (35 %) and with diaphragmatic infarctions (43,84 %). The days of the week with the highest incidences of acute myocardial infarction were Tuesdays and Thursdays (16,46 % each). A statistically significant association (p<0,05) was found between leaving the hospital deceased and suffering an infarction in the months of January, April and May.
Conclusions: acute myocardial infarction occurred more frequently after the sixth decade of life, mainly in men, with location on the lower face. The episodes were common from Monday to Friday, where, in addition, those who suffered infarctions in January, April and May were more likely to die.
