Introduction: dengue is a viral disease of growing importance for human health, so that knowledge of the spatial patterns of acute infection caused by dengue virus and transmitted by the bite of the female Aedes mosquito, especially the aegypti species, is essential to understand the dynamics of spread.
Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of a community intervention strategy against Aedes aegypti during October-November 2021.
Methods: an intervention study was carried out in the municipality of San Juan y Martínez, Pinar del Rio province, during the period from October to November 2021. The working universe was constituted by the Urban People's Council. First, the behavior of entomological and clinical surveillance indicators was studied. Based on these results, the actions contained in the strategy were designed and implemented, and later, for the final evaluation, the same indicators were evaluated.
Results: the infestation rate decreased to 0,13 %. The Breteaux index remains above the home index, but with very little difference. The percentage of positive and reiterative apples decreased to 65,6 and 27,8 %, respectively. There was a considerable increase in febrile, admissions and monosurveys performed; and a decrease in reactivity.
Conclusions: after implementing the actions of the strategy, a significant decrease in the level of Aedes aegypti infestation was achieved, as well as positive indicators for the rest of the program indicators.
