Morphometric indicators of the glandular epithelium in digestive diseases

Introduction: only a few national studies provide solid knowledge of the morphometric indicators of the glandular epithelium in digestive disease.
Objective: to analyze the morphometric indicators of the glandular epithelium in chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric adenocarcinoma in patients of the gastroenterology consultation at the “Manuel Ascunce Domenech” Hospital from june 2020 to December 2021.
Methods: analytical cross-sectional study. The universe coincided with the sample that was made up of 60 biopsies using the paraffin embedding technique. The values of the hight of the glandular epithelium, glandular area, lumen of the glandular area and the density of the glandular area were determined as variables of the study during the aforementioned period.
Results: regarding the hight of the glandular epithelium, the Anova and Scheffe tests showed that the main differences in terms of the hight of the epithelium lie between gastric adenocarcinoma and chronic gastritis. According to the glandular average and the area of the glandular lumen, it is evident that the greatest differences are present between these two diseases mentioned above, not having an equal behavior. However, among measures of the gland density for the three diseases, the main differences were between chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer.
Conclusions: it was possible to analyze the behavior of the values of the morphometric indicators of the glandular epithelium in the three diseases studied. The utilization of these indicators proves its utility to differentiate one disease from another in a simple and precise way.
