Educational Intervention on periodontal medicine for stomatologists from Minas municipality

Introduction: the mastery of periodontal medicine by stomatologists is essential to raise the level of knowledge.
Objective: to apply an educational intervention on periodontal medicine to stomatologists in the municipality of Minas from January 2020 to January 2022.
Methods: a quasi-experimental study with participatory action was carried out, where an educational intervention was applied with a non-probabilistic sampling based on the diagnosis made to raise the level of knowledge of the stomatologists of the Minas municipality in relation to periodontal medicine. The universe was made up of 55 stomatologists from the different stomatological assistance units of the municipality of Minas during the period of the research. The sample coincided with the universe. The data were processed with the SPSS 21.0 statistical program.
Results: in the study sample, basic general stomatologists predominated, the absence of teaching category and graduates prevailed in relation to professional experience, followed by one - five years. Regarding the level of knowledge, most of them were not very informed. Smoking was the subject they knew the most about, with a prevailing lack of knowledge in many of them. Most of the personnel were satisfied with the course implemented.
Conclusions: The low level of knowledge of the participants about periodontal medicine was diagnosed and the educational intervention strategy was able to reverse this situation. The staff was satisfied with the course given.
