Introduction: in the present century, a greater number of people surpass the chronological barriers of old age, influencing this in the appearance of health problems, constituting Ischemic Cardiopathy and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus diseases of high prevalence and incidence.
Objective: to characterize the cardiovascular risk in older adults with Type II Diabetes Mellitus from a medical office.
Methods: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out on 219 patients over 60 years of age suffering from Type II Diabetes Mellitus from medical office no. 57 of the Turcios Lima Polyclinic selected by intentional sampling, the variables used were: age, sex, cardiovascular risk factors, body mass index, chronic complications presented by these patients and global cardiovascular risk classification of the patients, descriptive statistics were used.
Results: the sample investigated was predominantly female (N= 119; 54,3 %), the most representative age group was the one between 71-75 years (N= 69; 31,5 %). Dyslipidemias (N= 124; 30 %) were the main cardiovascular risk factor. According to the predominant body mass index in overweight patients (N = 97; 44,7), ischemic heart disease (N = 129; 58,9 %) was the most frequent complication in patients. High cardiovascular risk predominated (N= 103; 47 %) in patients with Type II Diabetes Mellitus.
Conclusions: the overall cardiovascular risk in elderly patients with Type II Diabetes Mellitus from the medical office no. 57 was high.
