Historical reality about the care given to Che Guevara at the “León Cuervo Rubio” hospital in Pinar del Río

Introduction: Che Guevara had received medical attention during the invasion of Playa Girón at the “León Cuervo Rubio” hospital. An article published on June 10, 2008 in the Cuban newspaper, Juventud Rebelde, without a doubt incomplete in details, motivated to deepen the investigation.
Objective: a historical, testimonial and situational review, which allows the narration of what happened around Che Guevara in the hospital during the invasion of Playa Girón in April 17, 1961.
Methods: qualitative, historical, testimonial, descriptive research, using primary and secondary sources that have allowed a synthesis of Che's surgical care in the hospital. The data was triangulated.
Development: people who helped in securing, security and published documents, allowed to reconstruct in a general way the arrival, stay and removal of Che in the hospital, not published. Critical, unique and revealing work on an episode in the life of Che, that has not been widely publicized.
Conclusions: che received an accidental wound to the right cheek in Consolación del Sur, transferred to the Pinar del Río hospital on April 17, 1961 around noon, he did not arrived in serious condition, the surgeon treating him was Dr. Nicolas Pérez Lavin, attended by the nurse Olga Alarcón Ulloa, and the time he left the hospital is not specified.
