Virtual learning environments and independent work

Introduction: virtual learning, as a way to develop independent work, has been incorporated into the settings of educational institutions, in response to the demands and needs of the new generations.
Objective: analyze the use of the Moodle platform for the development of independent work during the students' teaching-learning process.
Methods: to develop the review presented, a bibliographic search was carried out in the Scielo, Pubmed, Cochrane Plus, ELSEVIER and ClinicalKey databases on independent work through virtual learning environments in English and Spanish. The articles selected by the authors of this research were those published in the period between 2018 and 2023. As an exclusion criterion, articles in a language other than English or Spanish and published before the indicated period were discarded. 20 bibliographic references were identified.
Results: a positive impact was achieved on both teachers and students. The platform can be used in the design of most self-regulatory activities, mainly in promoting self-assessment.
Conclusions: it allows to encourage students' knowledge, to continue acquiring experiences through virtual learning platforms, allowing support for face-to-face classes, facilitating an autonomous and regulated learning process for students through independent work.
