Introduction: steatotic liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction currently constitutes a health problem of progressive incidence and worldwide prevalence. The different imaging diagnostic means contribute to externalizing this entity in a varied way for effective management.
Objective: to analyze current information available on the different imaging techniques and findings useful for the diagnosis of steatotic liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction, as well as the role and suitability of these in various clinical contexts.
Methods: national and international bibliography was collected and reviewed in the period from January to December 2023. The search strategy adopted was the use of keywords or descriptors in Spanish and English. 73 articles from different databases were reviewed and 30 were used.
Development: the different particular imaging characteristics that define steatotic liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction were described through different imaging diagnostic means, where these allow confirming or ruling out the suspicion of this entity, as well as its analysis and control, as well as the importance, advantages and disadvantages of the most used in different clinical contexts.
Conclusions: the applications of diagnostic imaging methods are important in the study of steatotic liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction. It is suggested to consider the use of conventional ultrasound in the national context, leaving biopsy and elastography for specific cases.
