Level of knowledge regarding the independent work of Dentistry professors

Introduction: independent work, as a method of organization within the educational process constitutes a way of the syllabus organization which is implemented for the plan-D of Dentistry major.
Objective: to assess the level of knowledge the dentistry professors have regarding the independent work.
Method: observational descriptive study. Theoretical, empirical, statistical and materialistic dialectical methods were used; 14 professors were randomly selected during the academic course 2015-2016 to comprise the study group, 8 of them from the basic area and 6 from the clinical area, with the main teaching rank, having an average of 19.6 years of teaching experience and 92.85% of them having the master degree.
Results: the main findings pointed out to solve the educational tasks, search for specific information, instructions of the tasks intertwined, the design of charts, diagrams, models, summaries, problem-solving exposition, the development of team activity, and the work supported on the objectives, motivation of the activity and the orientation of literature, assessing the evaluation of the activity for the development of independent work.
Conclusions: to carry out methodological activities in order to standardize the teaching of independent work as a way of organization of the teaching-learning process in Plan-D of Dentistry major.
