Subprosthetic stomatitis in patients with removable prosthesis at Camilo Cienfuegos military school, Sancti Spíritus province

Introduction: subprosthetic stomatitis is one of the most frequent alterations of the oral mucosa in patients wearing removable dental prostheses.
Objective: to describe subprosthetic stomatitis in patients with removable prostheses at Camilo Cienfuegos military school in Sancti Spíritus province.
Methods: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, cross-sectional study was carried out in 47 patients wearing removable dental prostheses and diagnosed with subprosthetic stomatitis, at Camilo Cienfuegos military school in Sancti Spíritus, from January 2019 to February 2020. Theoretical, empirical (survey and observation) and statistical-mathematical methods were applied to obtain the information that responded to the variables in study.
Results: male sex prevailed with 59,6 %. The group from 60 years old and older represented the highest percentage with 31,9 %. The highest frequency of risk factors was grade-II severity of the lesion (61,7 %), mid-palate location (55,3 %), and time wearing the prosthesis between 11 to 15 years (51,0 %), smoking (40,4 %), as well as maladjusted prosthesis (38,2 %).
Conclusions: more than half of the patients presented subprosthetic stomatitis grade-II, and those wearing the dental prostheses between 11 and 15 years and lesions in the mid palate area. Smoking and maladjusted prosthesis were the predominant risk factors.
