León Cuervo Rubio, egregious medical and surgical professional of the 20th century in Pinar del Río

Introduction: it is difficult to write about a personality who stood out in the most significant way within the Pinar del Rio and national society in the first half of the last century, it is derived that a hospital in the city bears his name since 1950.
Objective: to search for documentary sources that support the contribution and historical context of the work carried out in the province of Pinar del Río by a distinguished medical professional in the province.
Methods: qualitative, historical, testimonial and situational, descriptive research, using primary and secondary sources that have allowed to make a synthesis of his professional, social and political activity in the fundamental and chronological order.
Development: from the provincial archives we have obtained the main moments of his life and work that are published, as well as taking from other sources. This allowed us to achieve a coherent sequence on the life and work of Dr. León Cuervo Rubio.
Conclusion: the documentary review carried out leads to the conclusion that Dr. León Cuervo Rubio was the most outstanding professional in surgery and medicine in the province and that he made the greatest contribution to the development of these specialties.
