CALIRAD: a prototype for image quality assessment in tomography
Keywords:
PROOF OF CONCEPT STUDY, QUALITY, TOMOGRAPHY, SOFTWARE.Abstract
Introduction: computed Tomography studies involve exposures with high parameters that result in a higher imparted energy than in conventional procedures where it is necessary to document experiences of quality evaluation in Tomography services, which help to identify the main causes that affect the quality of the images and allow to propose actions for the improvement of the general quality.
Objective: to develop a prototype of a web application to evaluate the quality of the tomography service of the General Teaching Hospital "Abel Santamaría Cuadrado" in Pinar del Río, which will contribute to improve the service provided and protect patients, workers and the general public.
Methods: applied, descriptive and technological innovation research, with a general dialectical-materialistic methodological approach in the Imaging Department of the General Teaching Hospital "Abel Santamaría Cuadrado" in Pinar del Rio, which allowed the selection of research methods, procedures and techniques, both theoretical: Historical-Logical, Analysis-Synthesis, Induction-Deduction and Modeling; and empirical, scientific observation and interview.
Results: a prototype of a web application capable of evaluating the basic indicators of quality of medical images in tomography was obtained, with the help of procedures, standards, techniques and service routine in order to improve the quality of the services provided.
Conclusions: the prototype of the web application was developed as a tool to control and evaluate the department's performance. It constitutes a basis for comparisons between health institutions and for external and internal audits of the service.
