Correlación entre la nefropatía y retinopatía diabética en el Hospital "Abel Santamaría Cuadrado" 2000 - 2001. Correlation between diabetic nephrotomy and retinopathy at “Abel Santamaria Cuadrado” 2000-2001

Resumen

Con el objetivo de establecer la correlación de retinopatía y nefropatía diabética, se realizó un estudio transversal y descriptivo, efectuándose una revisión de las Historias Clínicas de los pacientes diabéticos que habían sido egresados en el Hospital Abel Santamaría Cuadrado durante el año 2001 y que tenían entre sus diagnósticos nefropatía y/o retinopatía diabética. Solamente el 6.5 % de los pacientes tenían diagnóstico de retinopatía o nefropatía, con predominio en los diabéticos tipo 2. El 82.7 % de los casos afectados tenían un control metabólico deficiente al ingreso y los 29 tenían retinopatía diabética en alguno de sus grados, pero solo el 62.2 % de ellos tenían proteinuria, manifestación de nefropatía. Todos los pacientes con nefropatía, por lo que podemos concluir, aunque nuestra serie no es amplia, que la presencia de retinopatía es condición imprescindible para afirmar que el paciente diabético tiene una nefropatía diabética y no una glomerulopatía por otra causa.

ABSTRACT

Aimed at stabilising the correlationship between Diabetic Nephropathy and Diabetic Retinopathy a cross - sectional and descriptive study was carried out by means of analysing the diabetic patient's medical records discharged from Abel Santamaría Hospital during years 2000-2001 being diagnosed Diabetic Nephropathy and/or Diabetic Retinopathy. Only out of 6.5 % of the patients were diagnosed retinopathy or nephropathy predominating diabetes type II, 82.7 % of the patients who suffer from these entities had a deficient metabolic control at admission, all of them (29) suffered from diabetic retinopathy in any of its degrees, of them 62.2 % suffered from proteinuria - a sign of nephropathy. All patients who were diagnosed nephropathy suffered also from retinopathy. Concluding, although the sample is not extensive, retinopathy presence is an essential condition to state that a diabetic patient suffers from Diabetic Nephropathy instead of Glomerulopathy due to another cause.
